DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP

With the advent of social media, mobile devices in the classroom and a range of e-learning tools in the classroom it is more important than ever that students are aware of the long term effects of leaving their digital footprint and learn to become good cyber citizens. 
The concept of digital citizenship needs to be embedded in all aspects of work in schools with e-learning tools.
A good way to start this is to build awareness of what it means to be a good citizen in our community -  local, national and global. 
So what is a good citizen? 

QUESTIONS

Q1.  What do you use the internet for most? What's the first site that you go?  Social meadia, Instagram. 

Q2.  How can we encourage more children to learn to code? Will you get involved in the #hourofcode? No.

Q3.  Who teaches you about staying safe online? My teacher and friends. 

Q4.  What are the best ways for learning about online safety? experience from others. 

Q5.  What is a digital footprint and why are they important? Watch this video to help with your answer.  I don't know. 
Q6.  What are some important things to consider when taking part in Blogger? Don't know.

Q7.  Should schools be using social media in the classroom and why? Yes just for appropriate research. 

Q8.  How do we know which websites and people to trust online? Teachers.

Q9.  Does anyone know any website/resources or Apps to share about Cyber safety? No.

Inventive Thinking, Creativity, Passion & Talent

Welcome back to Kidsedchatnz for Term Three.  

This week we are exploring "Inventive Thinking, Creativity, Passion & Talent".




 







  1. What are your interests, talents or passions? Sport. 
  2. How do you get to learn about your interests in the classroom? Give us an example. Researching facts about my favourite sport players.
  3. Do you think it's important for children to have time each week to learn about something that they're interested in? Why? Yes, so they get to learn more about their favourite things.
  4. What is the world's most important invention so far? How does it affect your life? WIFI. 
  5. The Kid President wanted to invent a Catuum Cleaner. What would you like to invent to make the world more awesome? Robots. 
  6. The top 10 jobs in 2017 didn't exist in 2007. What jobs do you think there will be in 10 years time? Don't know. 
  7. Inventive thinking requires taking risks, being curious and thinking skills. How do you do this in the classroom? Thinking space. 
  8. Is creativity important? How can we encourage creativity in the classroom? helping others. 
  9. Sometimes we get stuck with our learning and have to problem solve. What does good problem solving look like? Thinking.

Righto, get those imaginations going! We want you to think about your current classroom and what a classroom could look like in the future.



    1.What about your classroom do you really like? All my friends. 

      2.What are the things that you find difficult in your classroom? Some of the work. 

        3.What would you do in your classroom to improve it? less work more p.e 

          4.What is your favourite piece of furniture in your classroom? Why? Chairs and technology. Everyone in my class use's these things. 

            5.If you have no budget what one thing would you buy for your classroom that would help your learning? Why? I don't know.

              6.What would your dream classroom look like? Everything got to do with sport. 

                7.What would the technology look like that you would use in your dream classroom? Normal technology. 

                  8.What would a classroom look like in ten years time?  Different people and technology properly.

                  9. Any tips or advice for Mrs Keen in terms of the room 5 - 8 refurbishment? I can't wait to see what it looks like.

                  1) Do you think that technology will be a big part of our lives in the future? Why, Yes
                  because it will be easier to save peoples lives.

                  2) Will technology disappear? yes, no, why? I don't know, going to have to find out yourself.
                  3) How do you use technology already in your life? Social media.

                  4) Research what the first digital device that was made and when it was built?
                  John Vincent Atanasoff and Clifford E. Berry of Iowa State University developed and tested the Atanasoff–Berry Computer (ABC) in 1942.

                  5) What do you think about technology at Casebrook is like? And how could we make it better? Its good for researching stuff that you're working on.

                  6) How do you think technology will change and what will be something you think will be created. EG: holograms, hovering cars. Don't know.
                  7) What are some of the positive effects of technology? Help.

                  8) What are some of the negative effects of technology? Doesn't always work right.

                  Blogger Prompt: Week 3 - Term 4

                  This week's blogger prompt about athletics as our school athletics is this Tuesday.  Watch the videos attached below.

                  1) Research the history of athletics - when did it all start, why did it start, what country did it originate from? etc. See if you can find some information out. Type out your answers below. DETAIL/DETAIL/DETAIL...

                  From the 8th century B.C. to the 4th century A.D., the Games were held every four years in Olympia, located in the western Peloponnese peninsula, in honour of the god Zeus. The first modern Olympics took place in 1896 in Athens, and featured 280 participants from 13 nations, competing in 43 events

                  2) Explain what you did well on athletics day? 
                  Tried my best in every event and made to a competition with a lot of other students from other schools.  

                  3) Explain what you could have done better with during athletics day? 
                  Listened to where my events were because I got lost. 

                  4) What was your least favourite event and why? 
                  I liked all of them but I found high jump the hardest because its so easy to knock the bar off. 

                  5) What is your favourite event and why?  
                  Long jump because I'm really good at it. 

                  6) Explain how you showed REP on athletics day? 
                  Encouraged others.  

                  7) What was your favourite discipline while practising with your class? Explain why.

                  9) What is your Year 9 athletics goal? Surprise, Surprise - yes there is athletics at high school!

                  Change leadership and Children's Issues

                  Kia ora Kidsedchatters,

                  It is hard to believe that it is Week 3 of Term 4, where does the year go!  I can hardly believe that in a few weeks we will all be getting ready for the Summer holidays.  Bring on the warm weather and lazy days watching the Black Caps.


                  This week our topic is about Change and Kids issues.  Over the past few weeks Aotearoa has gone through some pretty big changes.  We have a new Government lead by Jacinda Ardern, who is now our 40th Prime Minister.  The Government has made several big promises around supporting children to thrive and succeed.  We want to hear about change in your space and how to make it sustainable and what issues are facing our Kiwi kids.


                  When Jacinda Ardern was offered the leadership of her party she said  "When opportunities come up, say 'Yep, I can do that job'."  Could you be the change in your community?

                    1. What skills or qualities does a person need to have to be a Leader of a Country? Do you have these skills? You need to be empowering and make good ideas/decisions for the country. 
                    2. How does the Government of New Zealand affect you? I don't know. 
                    3. If you wanted to change something at your School, what would it be? The amount of bullies at school(racism and a lot of other offensive things). 
                    4. How would you go about making that change? Could you lead that change and what skills would you need? I don't know. 
                    5. What problems do you think New Zealand children are facing? Why are they having these problems? Abuse because of their parents.  
                    6. How could we help the children who are having these problems? I don't know.
                    7. Does your School do anything to help your local community? (Fundraising etc) Yes. 
                    8. What is more important - helping yourself or helping others? Helping others.

                    Q1. How often do you work in a team or group in your class? What team or group activities do you do? For sports.

                    Q2. Do you enjoy working in a team with others? Explain why or why not? yes Because its easier.

                    Q3. What are the key elements of teamwork? Why are they important? Trust and communication. You need to know if they're trustworthy or not and strategic communication around the team to make things easier.


                    Q4. In what ways are you a team player? What do you bring to a team? Communication. Encouragement.

                    Q5. Do you think it's important to be able to work with others? What are the benefits?  You get to know them better and soon you might be friends or something.

                    Q6. What can you do when someone is not pulling their weight in a team? What could you say? Encourage them to do better next time.

                    Q7. In one of the videos is the ex-NBA Champions San Antonio Spurs. Who is your favourite team? Why do you like them?Cleveland Cavaliers because I think Lebron James is a beast.

                    Q8. When you get older employers are looking for people who can work in a team. What other skills are they looking for? Helping everyone else out.


                    Q9. TEAM - Together Everyone Achieves More. What do you think this means? The same thing.

                    Blogger Prompt: Term 4 - Week 2

                    Week 4's KidsedchatNZ is all about family. Our families play a huge part in who we are and who we will become. To prepare for this weeks chat, talk to mum, dad, uncles, aunties or grandparents to learn about your family, both past and present. Try to find some interesting stories or facts that you might be able to share.



                    Questions:

                    Q1. Who makes up your family? What position were you born in your family? Oldest? Youngest? Middle? What's it like being that position? Middle. It doesn't make a difference to how I live so its just normal. 

                    Q2. What is special about your family? What do you love about your family? We are really sporty and have been playing sports nearly our whole lives but its pretty fun because I've meet a lot of friends over the years of sport. 

                    Q3. Would you prefer to be in a big family or small family? Why? 
                    Small so I don't get annoyed as much. 

                    Q4. Do you have any family traditions? (Holidays, fun activities etc) Christmas, Easter, Halloween and others..

                    Q5. How often do you spend time with your grandparents? Do you think it's important to spend time with them? not much because I live down south and they live up North but I like getting to know them better. 

                    Q6. What's the best piece of advice a family member has given you? You learn more from failure than success. Don't let it stop you, failure builds character. 

                    Q7. Share a story about your family. What's something interesting or funny we can learn about them? I don't know much. 

                    Q8. Kid President has a list of 10 things every Mum needs to know. What would you add to the list? Don't know.

                    What has stuck with you this term?

                    Term 3 2017 is nearly over and in our last KidsedchatNZ for the term we like to reflect. 

                    Put your thinking caps on to REFLECT and talk about some of the things that happened for you during this term.

                    1. What was your favourite part of this term. Having pizza and getting a gold badge. 

                    How did this make you feel and why? 
                    the pizza was good.

                    2. What was the most interesting thing that you have learned in Term 3?
                    Inquiry(terrorism).


                    3.What were some of the challenges for you? Tell us why.
                    Rugby League because we had really hard competition.

                    Every year since 1975 New Zealand has marked Māori Language Week. This is a time for all New Zealanders to celebrate te reo Māori (the Māori language) and to use more Māori phrases in everyday life. In 2017 Māori Language Week runs from 11-17 September, the theme is 'Kia ora te reo' – which celebrates New Zealand’s indigenous greeting and the intent of te reo Māori revitalisation efforts between the Crown and Māori.

                    3. How does New Zealand celebrate Maori Language Week? To be honest nothing.

                    5. What is your favourite Maori phrase or a saying you have heard this week? Haurangi.
                    6. What other languages are a part of your school and are these celebrated? Chinese.

                    This week in KidsedchatNZ, we are talking about the upcoming New Zealand election. New Zealand's next general election is taking place on 23 September.
